Queer Argentine Tango Workshop

Friday, April 17th at 5.30PM

Location: The Carrack Modern Art, 111 W Parish St, Durham, NC

$15 per person

Queer tango is a new way to dance Argentine tango, free from traditional heteronormative codes. It engages the elegance and complexity of the dance form without pre-established roles according to gender, regularly switching roles between leader and follower.

Workshop description:
After a playful warm-up designed to foster body awareness, contact with oneself, our partner, and fluidity of movement, we will dive into Argentine Tango principles such as leading/following, embrace, shift of weight and walking. We will deeply work on the above principles in order to access the heart of Argentine tango: improvisation around the structure. Regularly changing roles will allow us to refine communication and increase possibilities of play.
