End the year and start the new year in an embrace swirling to the melodic wails of the bandoneon and warm hugs of friends old and new. Our local organizers have worked very hard to put together two events starting in Durham on Thursday ending in Saxapahaw on Sunday. Join us for this four-day celebration of life, love, music, and dance. Details below.
Event 1: New Year’s Eve Milonga
Tango Utopia and Triangle Tango have joined forces for yet another New Year’s Eve Milonga. For the evening, we’ll have a double dose of our local DJs—Jae Youn & Cecil Ho. The tango queen herself will get us started with a lively mix of tandas sure to keep our energy levels up while we count the hours down. After midnight, Cecil Ho will kick it into high gear so we can start 2016 with a new groove.
Guests will enjoy delicious appetizers and a festive champagne toast at midnight. The music will go to 3 AM, so you can join us after the ball drops and still have a great time. Let’s bring in the New Year Tango Utopia style!

Event 2: Haw River Tango Marathon
The first annual Haw River Tango Marathon will take place between January 1 and 3, 2016 in the magical rural setting of Saxapahaw, North Carolina. Just a stone’s throw from Chapel Hill, Durham and Raleigh, and situated within the greater North Carolina Piedmont region, the former mill-town of Saxapahaw has become home to a southern Renaissance of music, art and local farming and food. Even the New York Times has taken notice of Saxapahaw in recent years.
The Haw River Tango Marathon will be hosted within the historic and beautifully refurbished Haw River Ballroom, which sits on the banks of the Haw River. Within walking distance, guests will find a cozy English-style pub, a bakery, a local butchery, a brewery with a tasting room, a general store, a café and beautiful trails along the Haw River for walking and relaxation.
The Marathon will feature five DJs from up and down the east coast, with catering provided by the Saxapahaw General Store Catering, which has been featured in Gourmet Magazine.
Please join us this winter in sunny North Carolina for nearly 40 hours of Argentine Tango with delicious local food, exciting DJs, beautiful scenery and more than a little southern hospitality.
